About Harrow
Harrow is the main town in the London Borough of Harrow, in north-west London. The council is Harrow Council. The old village, Harrow on the Hill, sits on top of Harrow Hill. The modern town centre grew up at the foot of the hill, to the north, in the area once called Greenhill.
We work all over Harrow, including:
1. Harrow on the Hill.
2. The town centre at Greenhill, below the hill to the north.
3. West Harrow, to the west, and Roxeth.
4. Wealdstone, just north of the town centre.
5. Harrow Weald, further north.
We also work in North Harrow, South Harrow and Kenton. Kenton is split between Harrow and the London Borough of Brent.
What to think about in Harrow
1. Hillside drives. Around Harrow on the Hill, roads and gardens can be steep. We plan the levels carefully, and add steps or a retaining wall where needed, so cars and people get on and off safely.
2. Clay ground. Most of Harrow sits on London Clay. Clay drains slowly, and it swells when wet and shrinks when dry. So the base needs to be deep and well compacted, with good drainage.
3. Conservation areas. Harrow on the Hill has several conservation areas, and there are more in Harrow Weald. Some of them have extra rules, so changes to front walls, gates or driveways may need planning permission. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with Harrow Council first. We'll help.

What affects the cost
Each Harrow job is priced after a free visit. These are the things that make the difference:
1. How big the area is.
2. The surface or stone you choose.
3. How much digging out on clay, and the spoil to remove.
4. The drainage needed.
5. Slopes, steps and walls.
6. Access, parking and space for deliveries.
We put the quote in writing, and we never ask for a deposit.
How we do the job
1. Survey. A free visit to measure up, check the levels and look at the ground.
2. Quote. A written quote with the materials, base and drainage, set out clearly.
3. Base. We clear the old surface and spoil, and lay a compacted sub-base.
4. Surface. Your new driveway or patio goes down, with edging, drainage, steps and walls.
5. Handover. We tidy up, explain the aftercare and give you your 10-year guarantee.

Harrow questions
Does resin bound let water through on a Harrow driveway?
Yes. Resin bound is porous, so rain can drain through tiny gaps between the stones into the base. On clay, we plan where that water goes next, often with a link to a drain.
Why does water run down some sloping Harrow drives?
It's usually because the levels send water towards the house, or there's nothing at the bottom to catch it. On a new drive, we set the levels so water runs away from the house. We can fit a channel drain at the bottom of the slope to catch it.
Do I need planning permission for a front driveway in Harrow?
You don't normally need permission if the new surface lets water soak through, or drains to a lawn or border. Covering more than 5 square metres with a solid surface that drains nowhere else usually does. Flats, listed homes and conservation areas may have extra rules, so check with Harrow Council.
How do I look after a sandstone patio in Harrow?
Sweep it, clear leaves and moss, and wash it gently once or twice a year. Sealing can help natural stone resist stains, and we can seal it for you if you'd like.
What's covered by the guarantee in Harrow?
Our 10-year guarantee covers the driveways, patios and walls we build. There's no deposit. See our guarantee and insurance page.
How long does a driveway take in Harrow?
Most jobs are completed within a working week, Monday to Friday. We'll give you a clear timeframe with your written quote.
