About Watford
Watford is a town and borough in Hertfordshire. The council is Watford Borough Council. The River Colne and the River Gade both flow through the town.
The town takes in many neighbourhoods. We work across all of them, including:
1. The town centre, and the streets near Cassiobury Park, on the western side.
2. West Watford and Holywell, to the west.
3. Oxhey, to the south.
4. North Watford, to the north.
5. Garston and Meriden, further north.
These are all in the borough of Watford.
Many places close to Watford are outside the borough, with their own councils. We work in these too:
1. Croxley Green, to the west, and Abbots Langley, to the north. Both are in Three Rivers.
2. South Oxhey and Carpenders Park, to the south. Both are in Three Rivers.
3. Chandler's Cross, to the west. This is in Three Rivers.
4. Bushey, to the south-east, and Aldenham, to the north-east. Both are in Hertsmere.
If you live in one of these places, your council is Three Rivers District Council or Hertsmere Borough Council, not Watford.
What to think about in Watford
1. Your ground. Ground can change from one part of town to the next. We check how your ground drains on the free visit, before planning a soakaway.
2. Lower ground near the rivers. If your home is near the Colne or the Gade, the ground may be damper. We plan the levels and drainage to help keep water away from the house.
3. Front gardens on busy roads. If your drive opens onto a main road, think about turning space, so you can pull out forwards and see clearly.
4. Conservation areas. Watford has several, including Nascot, Oxhey, Watford Heath, Estcourt and some around the town centre. If your home is in one, or is listed, there may be extra rules for walls, gates and front gardens. Check with Watford Borough Council first. We'll help.
Our Watford services

2. Patios. Porcelain, or Indian sandstone and York stone.
3. Garden walls. Brickwork, pillars and front walls built to match, plus retaining walls.
4. Drainage. Channel drains, and soakaways where the ground allows.
5. Decking. Timber and composite.
What affects the cost
Each Watford job is priced after a free visit. These are the things that make the difference:
1. The area to be laid.
2. The material and finish.
3. How much digging there is, and how much spoil has to go.
4. The drainage needed.
5. Steps, walls or changes in level.
6. Access, parking and space for deliveries.
We put the quote in writing, and we never ask for a deposit.
How we do the job
1. Survey. A free visit to measure up, check the ground and levels, and hear what you want.
2. Quote. A written quote, with the materials, base and drainage spelled out.
3. Base. We take up the old surface, remove the spoil and lay a compacted sub-base.
4. Surface. Your new driveway or patio goes down, with edging, drainage and any walls.
5. Handover. We tidy up, explain the aftercare and give you your 10-year guarantee.
Most jobs are completed within a working week, Monday to Friday.

Watford questions
How does resin bound let water through on a Watford driveway?
Resin bound is made of stones coated in resin, laid so small gaps stay open between them. Rain can soak through those gaps into the base, rather than running into the road.
Why does water pool by the door on some Watford drives?
It usually comes down to a drive that doesn't slope away from the house, or water with nowhere to go. On a new drive, we set the levels so water runs away from the house, and we can fit a channel drain. It can link to a soakaway where the ground allows, or to a suitable outlet.
Do I need planning permission for a front driveway in Watford?
You don't normally need permission if the new surface lets water soak through, or drains to a lawn or border. Covering more than 5 square metres with a solid surface that drains nowhere else usually does. Flats, listed homes and conservation areas may have extra rules, so check with Watford Borough Council.
How do I keep a porcelain patio in Watford looking good?
Sweep it, rinse spills and wash it gently now and then. Most porcelain doesn't need sealing.
What does your guarantee cover in Watford?
Our 10-year guarantee covers the driveways, patios and walls we build. There's no deposit. See our guarantee and insurance page.
